Really quite good as I was researching this event for my own work... this is basically unknown today and it not taught about in high schools and colleges. Also instructive and it is proof that the staging of "atrocities" for propaganda purposes and hiding weapons and launching weapons from witihin civilian areas in contravention of decency and human rights despite all the propaganda to the contrary by biased NGOs is clearly stated in this book. Also the human side in terms of the personalities of the people involved is expertly handled by the author. It can get dry at times, but if you are a military historian or interested in today's Middle East this is well worth reading.
Ahhhhhh where do I begin? This is the book that I should've purchased 20yrs ago! It puts me right back where I began my career as a U. S. Marine! I felt it all come back to me, this book helped me to understand why we were there and also eased some tension that was built up inside of me after 30yrs! A must read for all marines and war buffs!
This is a great book that was written a few years ago, but will to help explain why we got ourselves involved in a civil war with zero interest for the United States. This action still has repercussions even until today. The Reagan administration sent these Marines off to be "peacekeepers" in a land that has never, ever known peace. Future and probably the current President should read this book before the haul off and decide to sent our armed forces to "stomp out forest fires" all over the world.
Got this for my hubby and he loves the book. He was in the marines and stationed in bairut at that time so i guess you could say that book is about him too
Very good depiction, brought back some bad memories; but a good remembrance of those fallen comrades, I knew during my time there.
Good story
This book is extremely well researched but poorly written or edited. The book contains a ton of information but it is not organized in any cogent way. I appreciated all the research and information but, at best, Hammel's story is confusing and hard to follow.
Came in the condition in the displayed photo and came just in time. My boss is one of the Marines interviewed in this book. I bought one for myself ( which he autographed ) & I purchased this one for him. He was very pleased with the condition.
