This book was a wonderful reference guide. The pictures were colorful and the text rich and engrossing. The lowly apron and it's rich history presented in a light hearted book. As a bonus the book was also autographed. This was a surprised addition to a book that was already destined to become a treasure.

This book is a good gift, coffee table book, or reference book. It has lots of pictures of authentic vintage patterns, vintage looking aprons, and ideas for color and cloth. The vintage patterns she displays are very usefull and can easily be reinvented with modern commercial patterns. The patterns she offers are alittle disappointing, especially for children. I was looking for a Mom and kid combo with a bib type pattern. The childs pattern has no bib and was not gathered/sewn to the waiste band but like curtins, gathering as it falls. There is a "no frills" commercial type pattern for Mom on the back cover and the book gives good details for the patterns she describes in the book.To me the strenght of her book is in her pictures for ideas, and you can pick up patterns that are exactly like what is pictured in her books commercially. Personally I liked her book, I like idea books with vintage styles. This book can sit on your self until the time you need "inspiration" or a quick apron idea for a gift you want to make.

I just received this book last week. I read it in an afternoon on a car trip. The history of the apron and reminiscing about the memories associated with aprons is the theme of the book. There are photos included as well as some diagrams for making a few aprons. My copy includes an actual usable printed paper pattern in an envelope in the back of the book. If you are an experienced sewer, you should be able to make your own pattern from the diagrams. The instructions are good. If you are a beginner you may want to buy an apron pattern from one of the well-known sewing pattern companies. If you are looking for something with numerous patterns, you might find another book more helpful. For the reader, it's an enjoyable trip down memory lane. I loved it. This would make a great gift for a woman who lived in the 30's - 60's and enjoys thinking about grandmas, aunts, moms, etc. who wore aprons. For me it brought back cherished memories.

If you have even a passing interest in aprons, try this book. It has a lot of lush color photographs of beautiful apron examples. There is a brief history of the apron (not boring at all I swear), the evolution of the apron, from utility aprons, to the fancy organza hostess aprons and everything in between. There is even a pattern to sew your own apron. This book is put together so well, the photos are lovely, and the book is well written. There is a traveling apron exhibit with hundreds of aprons that may be near you or a short drive. I hope to catch it somewhere. The exhibit will travel until 2015.

When my friend EllynAnne asked me if I had an apron story, the memories came flooding back. Grandma in pearls and stockings with a brightly colored hand-sewn apron over her dress, my mom with that same apron tied over her work clothes at the end of the day, and finally me--you guessed it, in Grandma's apron--cooking away in junior high home economics class. How pleased I am now to read The Apron Book, and I'm here to tell you it sounds just like EllynAnne in person. She's taken her "girl-raised-in-the-south" voice to these wonderful apron memories, a rich mixture of gentility, tradition, and folksy humor, with her own finely tuned ability to tell a story. I only wish I could serve my teenaged son and his friends bottled sodas swathed in tiny aprons. Check out the picture, it's a hoot! Please oh please publish the pattern for those. And how especially honored I am to see my family heirloom apron, unfortunately now too worn to wear, featured in this handsome volume. EllynAnne has elevated our everyday aprons out of the kitchen or backyard barbeque pit into an American icon.

Beautifully produced, at first glance, the book seemed more fluff than substance. Then I sat down and read it. Enjoyable, shared stories and personal experiences and quite a good read. Still seemed a little fluffy but does have some substance. I was hoping for more information on making aprons than the 2 waist aprons and one bib apron (the pattern for the bib apron is included). A little information on storing vintage aprons was included and the pictures were inspirational.

Oh my gosh! I love this book. If you love aprons, enjoy making them and are interested in a brief history, you will enjoy this book as much as I did. There is a pattern in the back, as well. The book features a number of ways you can easily modify your current patterns to make each one individual and unique.

I me this author in a antique store in a little town called Post, Texas looking for antique aprons. She is funny, witty and very sweet. The book is awesome! it is entertaining to read. The pictures of the sweet aprons that she has collected are great. Aprons mean mother, comfort and home to me and this book brings that to you. I've bought this book for shower gift and given with a antique apron or a homemade one that you can make from the patterns in the book. I recommend this book to everyone!
